To review and rewrite asset management policy and process documents for the Transurban Asset Management System (TAMS), including full-service delivery of consulting, graphic design, writing and editing.
The asset management system is not new for the company, but it was needing a revamp. With numerous documents available across a number of different environments, the intention was to create a suite of base templates to start delivering consistency in appearance and content development.
Angela was invited via industry referral to the project and flown to the client's site in Melbourne.
It's important when going into such a large company environment that you don't act as a 'lone ranger' in what you end up rolling out; everything must fit within the compliance and operational excellence guidelines. There are branding considerations, but there is also what people 'are used to' and how that is going to affect change management overall in the roll-out and ultimate use of documents.
I had expressed that I felt the current templates being used were so colour intensive, particularly the cover pages, I wondered about environment conscientiousness with the use of all the toner and what this meant each time the documents were being replicated.
This was taken on board and was approved to create a more lean presentation of template, which not only enhanced the presentation, but was more in line with the company value of 'ingenuity': "if you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got' [Albert Einstein], and this change was a good thing.
As with some projects, the scope increased to include not only the templates, but illustrations that were to enhance the documents being written. These elements were branded to Transurban's corporate palette and included in promoting the new concepts to the in-house management team.
The existing 12 chapters that were initially written by business unit owners, were converted or translated appropriately to represent an asset management policy document.
The client received a complete suite of newly branded templates in alignment with their hierarchy of documents; illustrations and elements to be used within these documents, and re-written policy documents for inclusion within the master asset management policy document.
